Taking ZYRTEC with other medicines

Before you start taking ZYRTEC, be sure to tell your doctor if you are taking any prescription or nonprescription medicines. This includes any herbal remedies you may use.

ZYRTEC was studied with these 4 medicines. (No drug interactions were seen):

  • Ketoconazole (an antifungal)
  • Pseudoephedrine (a common nonprescription nasal decongestant)
  • Erythromycin (an antibiotic)
  • Azithromycin (an antibiotic)

Although no clinically significant drug interaction was seen with a low dose of theophylline (a drug used for asthma, chronic bronchitis, emphysema, or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease), a 400 mg dose of theophylline caused a slightly prolonged presence of cetirizine in the blood. It is possible that larger theophylline doses could have a greater effect.

If you have any questions or concerns, be sure to talk to your doctor.
